My Philosophy:

To change your behavior, you must first change your thinking. People and events don’t control who you are and how you react; it is your thinking that causes you to act and react. David Burns, MD, identifies Ten Ways of Twisted Thinking in his book, The Feeling Good Handbook. How many of these ten distortions applyto you? This form of therapy is called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. 

All individuals can benefit from professional help sometime in their life. There are two concepts on why one seeks assistance. One is because his/her life is out of control and it is affecting him/her physically, mentally, and emotionally. A broader, more enlightened concept is that a person is functioning OK but wants to feel, think and act to the best of his/her ability. Control stress before it damages your mind and body.

Psychologists are the experts on how the mind functions and how it works with the body's systems. You are an equal partner in therapy. Good therapy is not what you hear on the radio when Dr. Laura tells people what to do in 30 seconds or less. Therapy involves listening, exploring alternatives, and finding the right and best solution for you and your loved ones. This process takes time, study, and careful consideration. A good therapist helps facilitate this process.
